Dibond and metallic paint
20 x 20 x 13 feet

Santé is a public sculpture commissioned by Charlotte Skin and Laser in Charlotte, North Carolina. The piece is constructed from 150 sheets of aluminum composite using a CNC router. Once cut, each piece was finished with a metallic paint and bolted together using more than 10,000 pieces of fastening hardware.

A team of collaborators was vital for the variety and scope of processes required. The project was managed by Lauren Harkey at Hodges Taylor (based in Charlotte, NC). Steele was assisted by Robby Sachs in the creation and finalizing of the CAD model. Andy Tripp at Components by Design (based in Matthews, NC) handled all of the CNC fabrication. Katie Schindler at Fine Grit Finishes (based in Charlotte, NC) applied the metallic finish. Joseph J. Matrulli, PE at MStruct engineering, PLLC (based in Charlotte, NC) was the engineer for the project. Jim Gallucci and his team of Jim Gallucci Sculptor, LTD (based in Greensboro, NC) fabricated the brackets to capture the sculpture to the wall, and installed the project.

The installation was documented in photographs by Lydia Bittner-Baird.

Drone footage and video by Ben Premeaux at The SmARTlab.
